SURFACE tension

Using chalkboard sheet material, I would like to craft sculptural surfaces that viewers can interact with by drawing on them. In addition to the visual component (chalk markings), the underside of the chalkboard surfaces will be gridded with a network of contact microphones that can amplify sound. These contact microphone nodes can also be used to signal a programing interface (Raspberry Pi), that can adjust volume, shift lighting, and act as a control device for other pieces of hardware. While this work is decidedly audience-centric, I am crafting performance intervention scores to further activate participation. Could this prompting involve a particularly rousing game of tic tac toe, or a single line drawn, triggering the audio from a Youtube talking head pontificating about “trash bag struggle logic”?

Perhaps. Documentation strategies are also developing…”
